I cant believe its been so long since I blogged. There have been many things change in my life sine last time. Lets see I am no longer the Generational Ministries Pastor/Student Pastor. I took on a new position called Developmental Pastor. In my new role I will continue to lead the Ethos community but will have a more focused approach on developing strategic strategies for CIty Church as a community. I will also have a lot bigger role in leading what we call our lead team. This team is made up of our Care Ministry, Worship Arts, Community Life, Business Administration, Outreach, Generation Ministries. One of the things that I do now on a regular basis is meet with the Executive Pastor and the Senior Pastor plan for the future.
A couple of months ago I had the privilege to lead one of the sessions out our staff off-site. I laid out a theme for our staff to focus on during the next few months called....Creating the Future. I talked about how God was wanting to do a new thing here at our Church. The struggle you sometimes face when you have a staff that has been at the same church a long time is that we can get together and talk about what God did 5 years ago. The problem with this is sometimes it gives you a false sense of current success. I used the verse from Isaiah 42:18-19 that says “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing.” When I shared this with the team I told them that forgetting the past is very hard, because it not only includes the bad things but also the good things. You see I’m a part of a church that has done some great things in the past, but I am fully convinced that God still has more that he wants us to be doing and if we are not carful we will just sit around and share stories from the past and miss what He wants to do today!
Ok I had to say all of that to get to what I want to attempt to blog on this week. Ever since I shared that with the team I have been wondering....how do you exactly create the future? So, I am going to share my thoughts this week on how I think church organizations might attempt to create the future.
