So, last week at Ethos I challenged our Ethosians (word from C.Johnson) to a little Christmas rebellion. I felt like God dropped three very simple things into my spirit one day in prayer for our community when it comes to Christmas.
- Do NOT go into debt to buy presents
- Give gifts that give (I would love to get as many ideas on this from anyone so that could pass it on)
- Help someone in need this Christmas
a. yard work, money, meals, gift, etc.
As I have thought about it this week I want everyone to know that I am not challenging everyone else to do something that me and my family are not going to do. The reality is it is so hard not to buy in the cultural mindset about Christmas .... buy buy buy ....debt debt debt ===happiness.
Christmas is a gift of love. This year I want to make sure that more than giving presents or getting presents I want to love people. We have to stop this madness at Christmas and make sure we are really celebrating what this time of year means. Now I am not saying not to give/recieve gifts I am just saying we just don't need to lose our focus for Christmas. For those of you who have kids, make sure you teach your kids about the birth of our Savior.
So, accept the challenge and let's make this Christmas a year to change the world...one life at a time.
